Looking to Australia’s Fuel Security
Achieving a viable Low Carbon Liquid Fuels Industry in Australia
Aviation and heavy freight are among the hardest sectors to decarbonise, and low carbon liquid fuels are one of the few credible pathways available to them this decade. Fuel security adds a second driver as Australia currently imports the majority of its liquid fuel, leaving supply exposed in a way that storage cannot fully replace.
Australia already participates in the global Low Carbon Liquid Fuel (LCLF) market through the export of feedstock material and as an importer of fuels. As the nation explores the opportunity of domestically produced LCLF, we must ensure the Australian fuel system stays economically viable, secure and efficient.
Answering the Investment Question
Leaders across Australia’s low carbon liquid fuels value chain, from feedstock growers and aggregators to producers, fuel suppliers and offtakers, have come together through the Climate Leaders Coalition to contribute to the national conversation about the role LCLFs may play in Australia’s future.
As the nation looks at options for ongoing fuel security, the CLC’s Low Carbon Liquid Fuels Working Group, with modelling support from Rennie Advisory, has examined what the industry needs to succeed and the policy settings that would be required to get there.
